1-)Alm. Tundra (f), Fr. Toundra (f), İng. Tundra. Kuzey ülkelerinde rastlanan, yapısına likenlerin de katıldığı bodur ot toplulukları. Ilıman kuşağın kuzeyinden kutuplara doğru yaklaşıldıkça ormanların yerini, bodur çalılar ile karayosunları ve likenlerden meydana gelen tundralar alır. Tundralar yılın dörtte üçünden uzun bir süre karlarla örtülü kalır. Bunun için kutup bölgesi dışında yetişen bazı ağaçlara burada ancak bodur çalılar halinde rastlanır. Kutup söğüdü ve bodurhuç bunlara misal verilebilir. Hakim bitki topluluklarını karayosunları ve likenler (Ren geyiği likenleri vs.) meydana getirir.

Tundraların hakim olduğu alanlar, İzlanda’dan Kamçatka’ya olan kuzey kesimler ve Sibirya’dır. Tundralarda iklim çok değişkendir. Kuzey Kutup bölgesinin bozkır kısımlarında yazın sıcaklık 50°C’ye varırken, kışın -32°C ye kadar düşer. Alp tundrasında iklim daha ılımandır. Bu bölgede en fazla yağış yaz aylarında görülür. Yaz aylarının yağışlı oluşu dolayısıyle bölge bataklık ve turbalık bakımından da zengindir.
